Rear Admiral Marfiak joined the board of Kingfisher in 2010. From 2003-2015, he was a Senior Associate with Burdeshaw Associates Ltd., advising major corporations on defense acquisition issues.  A noted speaker and strategic planner, he headed up the United States Naval Institute from 1999 to 2003. During his distinguished naval career, he commanded the USS DOYLE (FFG-39), USS BUNKER HILL (CG-52) and the USS KITTY HAWK Carrier Battle Group. Ashore, he served as a Long Range Planner in OP-06, as Acting Director of the CNO’s Executive Panel, and as Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense. Admiral Marfiak served as the Head of Surface Warfare Plans and Programs, as Plans and Policy Director, U.S. Central Command and as Commandant, National War College at NDU.

He has been awarded the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (with Combat V and four Gold Stars), and numerous other personal and campaign awards. He is a recipient of the John Paul Jones Leadership Award from the Navy League of the United States.

Admiral Marfiak is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (BS). He has also been awarded the Diploma (MA) of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and the MA and Masters of Art in Law and Diplomacy (MALD) of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. Admiral Marfiak has also attended the Leadership Seminar at the JFK School, Harvard University.
