A native of Spalding, Nebraska, Captain Slevin joined the United States Navy in 1975 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Center in Orlando, Florida. Captain Slevin began his 10 year enlisted career with Advanced Technical Training at Naval Training Center, San Diego, California, and graduated as a Radioman Third Class Petty Officer. His tours of duty included Naval Communications Station, Diego Garcia; Naval Communications Area Master Station Western Pacific, Guam; USS Richard S. Edwards (DD-950) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and Naval Communications Area Master Station Eastern Pacific at Wahiawa, Hawaii where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer on 16 Oct 1983.
Captain Slevin was selected as a Limited Duty Officer and commissioned an Ensign in 1985. He has served at Naval Security Group Activity in Adak, Alaska; USS Reeves (CG-24) in Yokosuka, Japan; on the staff of Commander Carrier Group Five embarked onboard USS Midway (CV-41) in Yokosuka, Japan; on the staff of Commander in Chief, US Pacific Fleet, Makalapa, Hawaii; on the staff of Commander United States Central Command, MacDill AFB Florida; USS Boxer (LHD-4), San Diego, California, where he qualified as a Tactical Action Officer; on the staff of Commander Fifth Fleet, Commander US Naval Forces Central Command in Manama, Bahrain; onboard the staff of Commander, Amphibious Group One in Okinawa, Japan and at United States Special Operations Command, MacDill AFB, Florida. He commanded Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Jacksonville, Florida from July 2006 to July 2008. He again joined the staff of Commander US Naval Forces Central Command, Commander Fifth Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces in Manama, Bahrain as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Communications and Information Systems from July 2008 to October 2009. He commanded the Defense Information Systems Agency SOCOM Field Office from February 2010 to October 2012. His final assignment was at United States Special Operations Command as Director, J6 C4 Operations from Oct 2012 to June 2013. Captain Slevin retired on 30 Sep 2013 with over 38 years total active duty service.
Captain Slevin joined the Order of the Silver Eagle and Horseshoe as the Senior Limited Duty Officer in the Navy on 24 September 2012 onboard the USS Carl Vinson. Captain Slevin’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal with one bronze oak leaf, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one bronze oak leaf, Navy Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal with two gold stars and various unit, campaign and service awards. Captain Slevin is Surface Warfare and Information Dominance Warfare Officer qualified.
Captain Slevin is married to the former Ruby Antivo Yap from Legaspi City, Republic of the Philippines. They have two children, Jessica and AJ.
